This Pet Website Helps New Dog Owners Prepare for the Responsibilities of Having a Puppy

Posted by Catherine and the Paws-itive Pets on April 7, 2015 at 1:05 PM Comments comments (1)

Dear Sprinkle Goodness Reader,

Sock-chasing. It’s a “doggy sport” I started when I was a young beagle. I still like finding socks and running away with them. Then, Catherine or Matt will chase me, often giggling, as they try to get the socks back.

I keep Catherine and Matt on their toes – even as an older dog. I turn 13 this summer.

I’ve pulled apart and de-fluffed more pillows than I can count. I’ve even chewed apart some of Matt’s van seat when we were on a family adventure together. I’ll tell you more about that pet travel adventure soon.

But today, I tell you about all of this because when you bring a new dog into your life – he or she comes with surprises. I certainly did. But I’m a lucky beagle. I’m loved and I’m part of the family.

But not every dog is so fortunate. Did you know that many people get puppies without fully understanding how much work they really are? According to the pet website New Dog Owners, far too many people “get rid of dogs within weeks of bringing them into their home. This hurts everyone involved and can give that dog issues with getting close to people and even worse, ending up at the pound, just to be put down.”

That’s why New Dog Owners help people stating: “We are here to hopefully help you with the new member of your family and to cut down on how many dogs are given up on and passed from home to home.”

New Dog Owners is a great site where first-time doggy owners can learn what to expect with puppies and how to teach them the rules of the home.

They help people prepare for the responsibilities of a new dog. They give tips to help people through the tough times, as well as tips for day-to-day living such as understanding dog health, which dog treats pet owners like the best, and more. They also try to answer questions that people have and solve common issues.

If you’re a first-time dog owner – or are thinking of getting a puppy, I highly recommend you visit New Dog Owners by clicking here today.

P.S.: Catherine and Matt have articles published on New Dog Owners. You can find Matt’s tips on how to start off on the right paw here on New Dog Owners or you can read Catherine’s articles which includes tips on helping your doggy live long and healthy here.

M.E. Advocacy Raises Awareness on Vital Changes Needed in Healthcare Industry

Posted by Catherine and the Paws-itive Pets on January 19, 2015 at 4:50 PM Comments comments (0)

Dear Sprinkle Goodness Reader,

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

The organization, M.E. Advocacy is doing just that. Run by patient advocates, they are speaking up and implementing a plan of action to help people suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.)

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a neuro-immune disease, and according to May12.org “Neuro-immune diseases such as myalgic encephalomyelitis... impact the body and the brain.”

I read one woman’s experience living with M.E., and was shocked to learn about the pain and agony she endures – even to the point of being bedbound at one point in her life from this devastating disease.

M.E. is a serious health matter. Yet it’s often misunderstood and it’s not receiving proper biomedical research funding.

But there is hope for change. That’s because the M.E. Advocacy is dedicated to raising awareness about the misinterpretation of M.E. and why it must be recognized as its own distinct disease.

In addition to raising awareness, there is also a plan of action – which includes influencing policymakers so positive change happens. For example, their campaign goals include promoting and supporting activities such as:

• Getting Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) officially recognized as its own disease, along with a true M.E. definition.

• Getting proper government funding to study M.E., similar to the amounts being spent on diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and others.

Plus addressing other advocacy issues. But they do need all the support they can get. Please take a few minutes to explore M.E. Advocacy (http://www.meadvocacy.org) to learn more.

When you visit this site, please think how you might help them. Perhaps you can help with a donation. Donations of even just $5 are welcomed. Or perhaps you can share one of their blog posts by email, Facebook, or Twitter – and spread the word to help even more people become aware of M.E.

Whatever you choose to do to help – thank you. Thank you for taking action to support this good cause.

How to Find a Dog Breed that's Best Suited for Your Family

Posted by Catherine and the Paws-itive Pets on September 18, 2014 at 9:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Dear Sprinkle Goodness Reader,

Are you thinking about getting a dog?

Dogs are the best – they’re loyal, loving, and a wonderful part of family. Choosing the right dog for your family is important though. Your dog will be your companion... your best friend... for up to 14 or more years (depending on the breed you choose).

Rocky, my beagle, entered my life twelve years ago, and I'm so happy he's on life's journey with me. I love my little Rocky. I always wanted a beagle.

Did he bring surprises with him? Absolutely. For a small breed dog, he’s strong, even now in his older years. In fact, he pulls me when I take him for walks (or rather, he’s pulling me so much, it’s like he’s taking me for walks!). Walks are needed because beagles have so much energy. They need to burn off that energy or else they’ll get into mischief, especially our Rocky!

That’s okay. Matt and I enjoy taking Rocky, and our other precious beagle, Daisey, for walks.

If though, you're thinking of adopting or buying a dog, where can you go to learn more about the personality and traits of a dog you’d like?

There is a place. It's called The Dog Breeds Bible. It's a pet website where you can find complete profiles on all kinds of dog breeds -- and learn more about the behavior, appearance, grooming needs, and in some cases, a little history and training tips, too.

It's a great site for helping you find the right dog for you or your family. Let's say, for instance, you have bad allergies. Well, this site provides information on the best hypoallergenic dog breeds – so you can find the perfect doggy – without sneezing all the time.

This site also includes information about hybrid dogs. Hybrid dogs are the result of cross-breeding between two purebred dogs. One example of a hybrid dog is the Pomsky, also known as the Pomeranian Husky. That's because the Pomsky is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They're adorable as you can see in the video of Pomsky puppies on this site.

So whether you’re curious about hybrid dogs like the Pomsky, or have another breed in mind (a Poodle, Great Dane, Chihuahua...) you’ll find The Dog Breeds Bible helpful.

  • Simply go to http://thedogbreedsbible.com
  • Use the search feature at the top of the webpage for a specific breed such as "beagle" or...
  • Click on “All Breeds” at the top of the webpage to discover the amazing variety of dogs in our world.

As you can see in the picture below, Daisey, our little girl was happy this site talks about beagles, too!

Please let me know how this pet website helps you. You can share your thoughts and feedback in the comments section of this blog. Thanks so much!

How Bowling Played a Role in FiZZiON - a Safe, Effective Pet Cleaning Product

Posted by Catherine and the Paws-itive Pets on February 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Dear Sprinkle Goodness Reader,

The last time I went to a bowling alley -- I found it was a great way to bring friends together for a fun afternoon out.

Never would I have connected the hobby of bowling to pet care, though... until now. I’ll explain more in a moment.

First, if you have pets – you know it happens: Bathroom accidents inside... muddy paws running across floors, carpets, or furniture... upset tummies... and more.

And, if you’re like me, you just want to do good for your pets. So if it’s a clean-up every now and then, that’s okay. Of course, if you’re interested in learning how to make cleaning easier (and even more effective in removing stains and odors) I think you’ll like the product I recently learned about.

Our kitty, Buster for instance, is around 11 years old.

He sometimes gets an upset tummy. And, that means, he brings his food back up. Poor little guy.

I’ve found three different foods (that I mix together) that’s helping him. One of them comes from our vet. Although I’ve seen improvement, he still gets an upset tummy every now and then. Most recently, he was on his white furry sleeping area when it happened. I cleaned the area. But I knew it could use a more thorough clean.

FiZZiON helped me clean the area more thoroughly (and quite easily).

FiZZiON is a pet stain and odor remover that's doing good things for our world and pet owners. For starters, it's safe to use around pets (that's very important for me because I want our pets healthy and us, too). There’s no harsh chemicals like ammonia or bleach in their formula. Instead, FiZZiON uses a non-toxic, environmentally friendly solution that unleashes the proven power of CO2. Just add warm water to one FiZZiON tablet inside their reusable spray bottle – and you’re ready to clean the toughest stains and odors... as simply as spraying and wiping.

The scent is refreshing, too. It made me think of “spring.”

When I cleaned Buster’s mat using FiZZiON, he did notice a difference. He wouldn’t sleep on top of the area where I used FiZZiON, at first. However, not even 2 days later, he was back on his sleeping area and I got this photo of him...

Interestingly, FiZZiON has roots in bowling. By this I mean, it first began as a bowling lane cleaner for FiZZiON’s parent company Kegel. (For over 30 years, Kegel has been a world-wide leader in the bowling industry.)

Their pet cleaner – the FiZZiON Pet Stain and Odor Remover arrived in 2009 – and has won several awards from the pet industry – such as the Modern Dog “Green Product Pick.”

It’s very easy to use – as you can see in this video (Matt filmed and edited this for me – thank you, Matt!)...

If you watch this video, you’ll also see how FiZZiON is helping me prevent our boy dog, Rocky, from going bathroom against our staircase banister, again.

Since I’ve applied FiZZiON to the area Rocky used to return to, he has not gone bathroom there again. I’m hopeful this continues. So far, so good!!

If your pets are doing something similar (returning to the same spot to go “bathroom” inside) FiZZiON can help you too.

“Pets are attracted to the ammonia smell that comes from the uric acid in urine. When there are traces of this scent left behind, the pet is more likely to return to that spot to relieve itself,” FiZZiON’s website explains in the Frequently Asked Questions section.

FiZZiON’s award-winning formula “completely eliminates the uric acid,” and that's why pets are less likely to return to the spot that's treated.

I think it’s a great pet cleaning product that’s ideal for use at home, but also if you travel with pets. We have a 16-foot trailer (so we can take our pets on journeys with us) and I think FiZZiON will help us keep it smelling well.

It's affordable too. For less than $10 you can get their starter kit which includes a reusable spray bottle and two FiZZiON tablets right here. All you need to get started though is just one tablet. Once it's dissolved with ordinary warm water, the cleaning power of CO2 will remain active for up to one year. That’s amazing... and an outstanding value.

You can see all the pet cleaning products they have available at http://www.fizzionclean.com or by clicking right here

If you do try this, and you’d like to share how this product helps you – I know FiZZiON would welcome your thoughts on their website. I also welcome your thoughts in the comment section of this blog. Thank you so much.
