Answers for Copywriters:
Frequently Asked Questions
about AWAI and My Responses

Published: March 26, 2016

For people who’ve heard about AWAI’s program copywriting… are excited about the possibilities… but just have a few questions before making a final decision…

Question: Does AWAI really have a solid reputation? The testimonials all sound so good. Please expand on your testimonial.

Answer: First, AWAI has a solid reputation. Basically, here's my story: I was around 19 when my dad got the letter promoting the AWAI program, Michael Masterson’s Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting. I didn't believe it could work. My dad did. He sent for the program.

Curiosity got the better of me and I took a peak at the program. I loved it! I enrolled as a member almost immediately. It took me one and a half years to master the material (this is not true for everyone--some people can get through it in a few months; I always take longer to learn new material). But anyway, I loved it. I loved the idea of writing from home and being free to be myself 24 hours a day (i.e.: no more uniforms, no more restrictions on how to wear my hair, etc.)

I then completed the program, but didn't know how to run a business. I found a course in my community that taught me how to run a business. (AWAI now has a program for this; but at the time they didn't.) So, the business course in my community gave me focus -- I decided I only wanted to write for a niche market: self-help.

My dream client? While I had "pages" of contacts I'd found from the direct mail I'd received, the Internet, etc-- Nightingale-Conant (NC) were the number one on my list. So, I chose to go after them… and it worked!

I started working with NC in April 2002 and my career has really been good since. My fees started at $1,500... then went up to $2,500... and I've seen them go up to $5,000 plus royalties, in some instances!

More of my story can be found at http://www.awaionline.com/2002/06/job-of-her-dreams/ And, here is more of my story in regards to how I got into self-help http://www.awaionline.com/2007/10/interview-with-catherine-cairns/

Question: How long did it take you to complete the program?

Answer: It took me one and a half years. This is not true of everyone. Some people can get through it in six months. For me, I'm a slower learner and the whole idea of copywriting was new to me, so I was starting from scratch in this field. But once I grasped the material, that was it. I was able to land a great client with the program education.

Question: Did AWAI provide a lot of feedback online
or on assignments so you can learn?

Answer: Yes, they did when I went through the program. I imagine they still do, but this is something you’ll need to ask AWAI about. What I can say, is, AWAI are continually improving the service they offer to members, so I imagine it will be even better for you!

Question: Did they provide you with some real jobs or job leads?

Answer: Yes. There is a section in the program that helps you promote yourself. Plus, AWAI offers programs specifically on self-promotion. At one time (and perhaps they still do) have an online job bank for copywriters called Direct Response Jobs. Plus, at their boot camps, they have a job fair, which is a great opportunity to meet clients.

Question: Do they provide support to you or feedback
even after the program is complete?

Answer: Yes. They have a weekly eletter called The Golden Thread Online (I'm not sure if the name has since changed). It has great tips and keeps you updated on the latest things happening in the copywriting world. You can sign up online free at http://www.awaionline.com/

Also, take the initiative to let AWAI know how you’re doing. They love hearing from us, and helping us succeed.

Question: Do you have to attend the boot camp
in Florida in addition to the program?

Answer: No. This is completely optional. When I completed Michael Masterson's program, I took that knowledge and landed work with Nightingale-Conant ... and my first kit was a control (made lots of sales). So, that program can launch your career.

However, I believe in continuing my education, to keep an edge, to stay sharp in my skills, so I have attended boot camps to do that. But it is optional. Another reason to attend boot camps, is, it's a great place to network and meet real clients that need well-trained copywriters (the type that AWAI helps to produce, should you follow their program advice).

Question: What did you like best, least?

Answer: I am grateful for it all. Copywriting helps me live my life the way I want to. It helps me see my husband and pets and spend valuable time with them. I love that about copywriting.

Question: Is the material sent to you and the information online really helpful and specific or more general?

Answer: Yes, AWAI are AMAZING in what they teach. All the information is VERY good ... very helpful ... very specific.

Question: Where do I start?

Answer: Start with Michael Masterson’s Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting. It will give you the foundation you need to get started in this industry.

Question: Anything else you would have
liked to have known before you signed up?

Answer: I think, I would have liked to have known there were more programs available. When I enrolled in Michael's program, I thought that was it. But, it's an ongoing process. Michael’s program gives you the foundation and yes, you can get clients. But I find, to keep that edge, more education with AWAI is needed (if you want to stay at the top).

Hope all this helps!
